Spinal Galant Reflex

Emerges: 20 weeks in utero

Birth: Part of the birth process
Inhibited: 3-9 months post-natal

  • Stimulates the release of urine and feces – a byproduct of pregnancy- during the birth process
  • Conductor of sound-vibration while in the womb
  • Synchronizing upper and lower body movements

Retained Spinal Galant Reflex:

  • The child is constantly fidgeting
  • Bed wetting and soiling beyond 5 years of age
  • Child dislikes certain articles of clothing
  • The constant irritant interrupts concentration and ultimately memory
  • May lead to a one-sided postural imbalance and create a scoliosis to the spine

 Integrating this reflex will:

  • Balance the muscles on both sides of the spine
  • Create better control of bowel and bladder function
  • Improved interest in physical activity and sports
