In this episode, I sit down with developmental specialist and educator Rhea Brashear to discuss why movement is the foundation of brain development. We explore the importance of crawling, primitive reflexes, muscle tone, and developmental milestones, and how these early experiences influence learning, attention, confidence, and independence. Rhea shares insights from decades of experience helping children and adults build stronger developmental foundations and explains why early intervention can make a lasting difference.
About My Guest:
Rhea Brashear is a veteran Montessori educator, developmental specialist, and Georgia Teacher of the Year recipient. With more than 40 years of experience in education and over a decade of work focused on developmental foundations and cognitive processing, she has dedicated her career to helping individuals build stronger neurological and learning pathways. As both an educator and parent of a child with developmental challenges, Rhea brings a unique perspective to understanding how movement, environment, and development work together to support lifelong learning and success.
In this episode, we cover:
Discover how early movement experiences such as tummy time, crawling, climbing, and balancing help build the neural pathways that support learning, attention, confidence, and independence later in life.
Understand how retained primitive reflexes, low muscle tone, and missed childhood developmental milestones may contribute to challenges with reading, writing, coordination, focus, and self-esteem.
Learn why addressing developmental foundations early may help children reach their full potential and why movement-based approaches often uncover root causes that traditional academic interventions can miss.
